Islamabad ( Khyber Point) Actress Ayesha Omar’s upcoming reality show “Lazawal Ishq” has sparked intense backlash on social media, with users demanding its immediate ban. The program, described as Pakistan’s first dating reality series, has drawn comparisons to international formats like Bigg Boss and Turkey’s popular show Love Island.
The teaser of Lazawal Ishq shows four men and four women living together inside a lavish villa, with their daily interactions and challenges recorded for the audience. While critics have called the show “immoral” and “inappropriate for Pakistani culture,” Omar defended it in the teaser, explaining that the purpose is to highlight the emotional journey of individuals searching for life partners.
Social media erupted after the teaser’s release, with many labeling the concept as unfit for local audiences. Users demanded the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) intervene and stop its broadcast before the show goes live.
In response, PEMRA issued an official clarification, stating that Lazawal Ishq will not be aired on any television channel but rather on digital platforms, primarily YouTube. The authority further clarified that since the show is exclusive to social media, it falls outside PEMRA’s jurisdiction and therefore does not violate its broadcasting rules.
Despite this, calls for boycotts and online campaigns against the show continue to trend, with many questioning whether such content should be allowed to stream freely on Pakistani digital platforms.
Lazawal Ishq is reportedly planned to run for 100 episodes, making it one of the most ambitious reality productions in the country’s entertainment industry. Whether it succeeds in finding an audience or gets overshadowed by controversy remains to be seen.
