Islamabad (Khyber Point)Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has intensified its efforts to secure an early hearing in the case related to the suspension of sentences awarded to party founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the £190 million reference.
Despite a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court directing that the matter be fixed for an early hearing, the couple’s suspension plea has yet to be scheduled. This delay has prompted PTI to mobilize its legal and political channels to push for urgent proceedings.
On Thursday, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, arrived at the chamber of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq to press the request for an expedited hearing. She was accompanied by senior PTI lawyers, including Niazullah Niazi, Naeem Haider Panjotha, and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry. Later, advocates Intizar Hussain Panjotha and Ali Bukhari also joined them at the High Court.
The case, which has attracted widespread media and political attention, stems from allegations surrounding the £190 million settlement deal and subsequent misuse of funds. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were convicted earlier this year, but their legal team has consistently maintained that the convictions were politically motivated and based on weak grounds.
PTI leadership argues that delaying the suspension hearing not only prolongs injustice but also undermines public confidence in the judicial process. Party officials emphasized that the matter has already been deemed urgent by the court and therefore deserves immediate attention.
Observers note that the outcome of this case could have far-reaching implications for both Khan’s political future and the broader accountability process in Pakistan.
