Kabul ( Khyber Point)Afghanistan has been struck once again by a devastating earthquake, leaving over 2,200 people dead and more than 3,600 injured, according to officials from the Taliban administration. This marks the third major earthquake to hit the region in just four days, compounding the humanitarian crisis across the country.

The latest quake, recorded at a magnitude of 6.2 by the German Research Centre for Geosciences, struck in southeastern Afghanistan near the Shiwa district, close to the Pakistan border. With a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers, the tremor caused widespread destruction, flattening entire villages. The provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar have been the hardest hit, where thousands of homes have been reduced to rubble.

Rescue workers are racing against time to search for survivors trapped under debris. Grim scenes unfolded as teams pulled bodies from collapsed houses, while survivors, left homeless, are forced to live under open skies amid dire conditions. The Taliban government confirmed that the cumulative toll from the three recent quakes has reached 2,205 deaths and 3,640 injuries.

The United Nations and international humanitarian agencies have issued urgent appeals for aid, warning that relief supplies, food, and medical assistance are falling dangerously short. Remote areas remain difficult to access, further delaying rescue and relief operations. Aid workers fear that without immediate international support, the death toll could rise as injured survivors lack timely medical care and thousands remain without shelter.

The tremors were also felt in parts of Pakistan, adding to regional concerns over seismic instability. For Afghanistan, already grappling with economic collapse and fragile infrastructure, this string of earthquakes has brought unprecedented devastation and suffering, pushing affected communities to the brink of survival.
