Islamabad, September 3, 2025 — Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, has stressed that the Kalabagh Dam project is a matter of national interest and should not be politicized. Speaking to the media in Islamabad, he said that water and energy projects such as dams are critical for Pakistan’s future, and all provinces must work together to build consensus.

Highlighting the historical mistrust between the military and the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Gandapur acknowledged that confidence had eroded due to past events. “We must move beyond apologies and grievances. What has happened is in the past. The country must move forward,” he said, adding that dialogue is the only way to resolve national challenges.

Reiterating his support for the Kalabagh Dam, Gandapur insisted that small dams cannot replace the importance of this project. “This is not an issue for one district or one party’s politics. It is a national matter. Objections should be addressed, and consensus should be built at the federal level,” he stated. He urged the media to play a constructive role in raising awareness and supporting debate on the subject.

Gandapur criticized political opponents who have historically opposed the dam, pointing to remarks by Awami National Party leaders who vowed to resist its construction. “This is not about bodies or generations; it is about Pakistan’s survival,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister further noted that discussions on dams were held at the Council of Common Interests meeting two and a half months ago, where Kalabagh’s location in Munda was reviewed. He also commented that while he supports the creation of more provinces, the feasibility of their sustainability must be carefully examined.
