Punjab ( Khyber Point)Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, departed for a visit to flood-affected areas of Punjab on Wednesday. The visit comes amid escalating flood conditions across major rivers, displacing thousands of people and devastating farmlands.
Before departure, Prime Minister Shehbaz received a detailed briefing from Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider, regarding the current flood situation. The briefing covered rising water levels in Punjab’s rivers, submerged villages, ongoing rescue efforts, and relief operations.
During an aerial survey, the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary measures are implemented immediately to manage the crisis. He emphasized that protecting lives and ensuring timely relief must remain the government’s top priority.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz joined the Prime Minister on the journey from Lahore to Narowal. Both leaders held discussions during the flight regarding the scale of devastation, urgent relief needs, and long-term rehabilitation measures. The NDMA chief remained present, providing continuous updates.
Upon arrival in Narowal, the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister will be briefed in detail on the condition of flood-hit regions, measures being undertaken to assist affected families, and the next phase of recovery plans.
Government officials stated that relief operations are already underway, with the army, NDMA, and provincial authorities jointly coordinating rescue missions. Medical camps, food distribution centers, and temporary shelters have been established in multiple districts.
The federal and provincial governments reiterated their commitment to stand with flood victims until full rehabilitation is achieved. Both Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz stressed that no effort will be spared in safeguarding communities and restoring normalcy in Punjab’s devastated regions.
