Peshawar( Kashif Arif) Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, announced that compensation for flood victims has been doubled and assured that the provincial government will provide 100% relief to all affected families.
In his video statement, Gandapur revealed that the devastating cloudbursts and flash floods, which began on August 15, severely impacted multiple districts including Buner, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mansehra, and Swabi. The calamity resulted in 406 deaths, 245 injuries, destruction of 664 houses, partial damage to 2,431 houses, along with severe damage to 511 roads, 77 bridges, and over 2,100 shops.
Rescue operations mobilized 2,061 personnel with 176 vehicles and boats. So far, 5,566 people have been rescued, 430 bodies recovered, and 136 link roads plus 65 bridges restored. Relief activities included providing cooked meals to 119,000 people, dispatching 125 truckloads of aid, and setting up 70 medical camps.
Gandapur announced major increases in compensation: death compensation doubled from Rs 1 million to Rs 2 million per victim, while compensation for the injured rose from Rs 250,000 to Rs 500,000. Completely destroyed houses will receive Rs 1 million, partially damaged houses Rs 300,000, and for the first time, destroyed shops will get Rs 500,000 while partially damaged ones Rs 100,000. Compensation for crops, orchards, and livestock losses will also be provided.
So far, Rs 654 million has been disbursed to the heirs of 350 deceased victims. Additionally, Rs 195 million has been given to 18 injured victims, Rs 665 million distributed as food stamps, Rs 790 million for housing, and Rs 280 million for shop owners. More than Rs 6.5 billion has already been released, with an additional Rs 5 billion to follow.
The Chief Minister vowed complete transparency through a new digital payment system and declared that his government will not rest until every flood-affected family is fully rehabilitated.
