Punjab ( Khuber Point)Punjab is facing a severe flood emergency as rising waters in major rivers continue to devastate vast areas. Due to heavy rainfall and the release of water from India, flood levels in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers have reached dangerous peaks, prompting urgent evacuation orders from authorities.

According to officials, the most critical situation is at Head Qadirabad, where the barrage is under severe pressure with water flow reaching nearly 996,000 cusecs. Despite creating a deliberate breach to reduce pressure, the risk of the barrage collapsing remains extremely high. Meanwhile, over 50 villages around Sambrial have been inundated, with eight confirmed deaths reported due to drowning.

The Ravi River is also swelling, with Lahore’s Shahdara area witnessing high flood levels. Authorities have advised residents along the riverbanks to evacuate immediately. Similarly, in Chiniot, a massive water flow of 350,000 cusecs is passing through, though the embankment can withstand up to 900,000 cusecs. The district administration is weighing the difficult decision of breaching protective bunds to save urban populations.

Floodwaters have already destroyed thousands of acres of standing crops and washed away smaller embankments in rural areas. In total, at least 11 people have died so far due to roof collapses and drowning in flood-hit zones.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that in Chenab’s Marala headworks, inflows have reduced slightly to 191,000 cusecs, but the Khanqi and Qadirabad points remain at extreme danger levels. Officials warn that the high flood wave will reach Muzaffargarh by Friday, threatening the localities of Rangpur, Doaba, Muradabad, and Sanqi.

With protective bunds already showing cracks, residents fear catastrophic breaches. Authorities emphasize immediate evacuation and preparedness as Punjab braces for one of its most dangerous flood spells in recent years.
