A woman from Yakatoot, Peshawar, has accused her father-in-law of subjecting her and her children to severe harassment and threats in an attempt to seize her late husband’s property and business. Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Samia Naveed, widow of Naveed Shahzad owner of Al-Karam Pharmacy in Dabgari Gardensaid her life and her children’s lives are in grave danger.
Samia revealed that her husband passed away nine months ago, and since then her father-in-law, Malik Khurshid Ahmad, has launched a campaign of oppression against her. “Just four months and ten days after my husband’s death, I was forced to leave my in-laws’ home due to constant mistreatment and moved in with my mother. But even there, I was not left in peace. My father-in-law, who is affiliated with a political party, has used armed men and local hooligans to pressure me,” she said.
She added that although Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have taken action and extended cooperation, the threats have not stopped. “My father-in-law even went so far as to exhume my husband’s body to falsely implicate me in his death. The fact is that my husband struggled with drug addiction for years and was repeatedly admitted to rehabilitation centers. I have all the evidence to prove this.”
Samia further alleged that her father-in-law was attempting to brainwash her two children, Aqsa and Hasher, after calling them to meet him. “He does not want me and my children to live peacefully or to have our rightful share in my husband’s property, which he earned through his own hard work.”
Expressing gratitude to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and CCPO Peshawar Mian Saeed for their support after her appeal went viral on social media, she stressed that the threats to her life continue. “Despite the authorities’ support, my father-in-law is still active in his efforts to usurp my husband’s assets and eliminate me and my children. If anything happens to us, Malik Khurshid, Malik Shakeel Ahmad, and their relatives will be responsible,” she warned.
