New York ( Khyberpoint)In a landmark move, France has officially recognized Palestine as an independent state, joining the ranks of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal. The announcement came during President Emmanuel Macron’s address at the United Nations, where he declared that the time had come to establish lasting peace in the Middle East.
President Macron emphasized that the responsibility for achieving sustainable and just peace in the region rests with the entire international community. He noted that the promise of Palestinian statehood has remained unfulfilled for decades, warning that the world now stands only “moments away” from a real chance at peace. Failure to act, he cautioned, could mean missing this opportunity forever.
“The war in Gaza must end,” Macron stressed, urging all parties to take concrete steps to deliver peace and justice to the people of the region. He highlighted that the rule of law, not force, should prevail.
During his speech, Macron referenced several nations that have already recognized Palestinian statehood, including Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Morocco, San Marino, and the United Kingdom. He also described the ongoing conflict in Gaza as “unjustifiable” and called for the immediate release of the remaining 48 hostages held by Hamas.
Meanwhile, in a parallel development, Hamas has reportedly sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, proposing a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of half of the Israeli hostages. The offer, if accepted, could mark a turning point in negotiations and open the door to a more durable peace arrangement in the region.
With France’s recognition, momentum appears to be building among Western nations toward granting Palestine full international legitimacy, potentially reshaping the dynamics of the Middle East conflict.
