Lahore ( Khyber Point) The international legal team representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi has filed an urgent appeal before the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, highlighting alleged inhumane treatment in prison.
According to PTI Punjab spokesperson Ali Imran, the appeal was submitted by Khan’s sons, Qasim and Sulaiman, while Bushra Bibi’s case was presented by her sister, Maryam Wattoo. The petition underscores severe violations of fundamental human rights, alleging both leaders are enduring degrading conditions behind bars.
The appeal states that Imran Khan has been kept in prolonged solitary confinement, deprived of essential medical care, served poor-quality food, and denied regular access to family members and legal counsel. Bushra Bibi is reportedly subjected to similar conditions, with inadequate facilities, deteriorating health, and lack of medical treatment compounding her ordeal.
The legal team has urged the UN to immediately investigate the matter and take steps to ensure both leaders’ safety, dignity, and eventual release.
This development marks a significant escalation in PTI’s international advocacy efforts, as the party seeks global intervention against what it describes as political victimization and suppression of dissent in Pakistan.
