Washington ( Khyber Point) U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the recent attack on Qatar was not authorized by Washington but was instead a decision made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking to reporters, Trump distanced his administration from the strike, emphasizing that unilateral bombing of Qatar does not serve either American or Israeli interests. “The United States never supported this action,” he said, adding that such steps undermine regional stability rather than advancing any strategic goals.
Trump further revealed that he had directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to expedite a new defense cooperation agreement with Doha. “Qatar is a sovereign nation and a close ally of the United States, bravely working alongside us to pursue peace,” the president noted.
The remarks come amid confusion and mounting tensions over the attack. The White House previously claimed that Qatari officials were notified in advance of Israel’s military action in Doha. However, the Qatari government strongly refuted this assertion.
Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dismissed Washington’s claim. “Qatar was given no prior warning of the strikes. The only call we received from American officials came after the explosions had already taken place,” he said in a strongly worded statement.
The episode has raised serious questions about coordination between Washington, Tel Aviv, and Doha, all of whom have historically maintained complex but strategic ties. Analysts warn that Israel’s unilateral move risks further isolating the country in the Gulf region while straining its relations with both Qatar and the United States.
Trump’s candid admission marks a rare instance of direct criticism aimed at Netanyahu, signaling potential fractures in the U.S.-Israel partnership over the handling of Middle East security.
