ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to hold a crucial meeting with leaders of allied parties today to finalize consultations on the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, government sources confirmed on Wednesday.
According to official and parliamentary insiders, the high-level meeting will take place at the Prime Minister’s House this evening, where the premier will brief coalition partners on the content and objectives of the amendment and seek their formal endorsement.
The government aims to present the 27th Amendment Bill for approval in the National Assembly on November 14. To ensure maximum participation and coordination, all federal ministers and members of parliament have been instructed to cancel their foreign trips until the voting process is complete.
Sources said that the Speaker of the National Assembly has already held consultations with parliamentary leaders of various parties and finalized the schedule and agenda for the upcoming session. However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary leaders did not participate in these discussions.
As part of the broader consensus-building process, a delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will meet the prime minister later today. The meeting will focus on achieving mutual understanding and resolving any remaining concerns regarding the proposed amendment.
The PPP delegation includes senior leaders Farooq H. Naek, Murtaza Wahab, Irfan Qadir, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, and Sherry Rehman. On the government side, the prime minister will be accompanied by senior cabinet members including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan.
Following the meeting, the PPP leaders are expected to travel to Karachi via a special flight to attend the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, which will review the party’s stance on the amendment and other key political developments. Originally scheduled to depart on a morning flight, the delegation delayed their departure to accommodate the meeting with the prime minister.
The 27th Constitutional Amendment is expected to address key governance, administrative, and institutional reforms, though the government has not yet released its full text. Political analysts say the amendment could have significant implications for federal-provincial coordination and future electoral processes, making today’s consultations critical for ensuring a unified government stance ahead of the parliamentary vote.
