Washington( Khyber Point)The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the meeting is part of a broader series of high-level engagements scheduled for President Trump during his stay at the UN. The president is also expected to meet with leaders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Türkiye, and Jordan, in addition to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
According to Leavitt, Trump will also hold discussions with leaders from Ukraine, Argentina, and the European Union. He is set to deliver a keynote address at the UN, which the White House has described as a significant policy statement on global security and U.S. foreign priorities.
During her briefing, Leavitt hinted that Washington will intensify measures against left-wing groups and confirmed that Trump will sign the TikTok deal later this week. She also noted that the U.S. president does not support recent moves by several Western countries to recognize Palestine as an independent state.
The Prime Minister’s Office had earlier announced that Shehbaz Sharif would participate in the UNGA session from September 22 to 26, and that a possible meeting with President Trump was under consideration. The White House confirmation now makes it official.
The Trump–Shehbaz meeting is expected to cover bilateral relations, regional security, and Pakistan’s role in global peace initiatives, particularly in the context of ongoing Middle East tensions. The encounter marks a critical moment for Pakistan–U.S. ties amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and the resumption of high-level dialogue between Washington and Islamabad.
