Peshawar (Kashif Arif) A police constable was shot dead in the jurisdiction of Machni Gate Police Station, officials confirmed on Monday. The incident occurred in the Telarzai area, where the body of the slain officer was discovered.
The deceased was identified as Safdar Khan, a resident of Tarnab in Charsadda district. According to police sources, Safdar Khan was serving with the Paharipura Police Station’s investigation unit at the time of the incident. His body was later recovered from Machni Gate’s jurisdiction and shifted to a nearby hospital for postmortem.
Following the discovery, an investigation team from the police reached the site and collected evidence, including shell casings and other forensic material. Senior officers have described the incident as a targeted attack, though the motive remains unclear. No group has claimed responsibility so far.
Authorities stated that additional police units have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence and reassure local residents. Checkpoints and patrols have also been increased across Machni Gate and adjoining neighborhoods.
The killing has raised concerns over the safety of law enforcement personnel who remain on the frontline in Peshawar, a city that has witnessed sporadic violence and attacks on security forces in recent years. Colleagues of the slain officer expressed grief, saying Safdar Khan was a dedicated policeman known for his commitment to duty.
Police officials vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. “We will pursue every lead and ensure those responsible are arrested,” an investigator said, adding that the case has been registered and raids are underway in different areas.
The tragic incident underscores the risks faced daily by law enforcement officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as authorities continue efforts to maintain peace in the region.
