Mumbai – Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has become the latest target of online trolling after his well-intentioned message for Muslims went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
On Thursday, Kapoor posted a short note wishing Muslims “Eid Mubarak” along with a few prayers for peace and blessings. While the actor intended to extend greetings on the occasion of 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, which marks Eid Milad-un-Nabi — the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) — his generic phrase “Eid Mubarak” triggered a wave of humorous reactions online.
Social media users, confused by the timing, questioned which Eid was being celebrated, since the two major Eids of the Islamic calendar had already passed earlier in the year. Some users mockingly replied with “Ramadan Mubarak,” while others teased Kapoor for what they perceived as a cultural slip.
Despite the trolling, Kapoor’s post quickly gained traction, amassing more than 1.8 million views within hours. Many Muslim followers appreciated the gesture, while politely clarifying the context. Several explained in comments that the actor had indeed been referring to Eid Milad-un-Nabi, a significant religious day for Muslims worldwide.
Others thanked Kapoor for acknowledging the occasion, with some highlighting that good intentions should be valued over technical accuracy. “At least he remembered and shared positivity,” one user commented, while another added: “He spread love, and that’s what matters.”
This incident once again reflects how social media often magnifies even the smallest cultural missteps into viral talking points. Still, Anil Kapoor’s goodwill message sparked a broader conversation on the importance of correctly naming and understanding religious occasions.
As trolling continued, fans defended the actor’s sincerity, reminding critics that Kapoor has long been known for his warmth and respect toward all communities.
